For this assignment I will describe the importance of referral to other organisations. The word referral as identified in the oxford dictionary means ‘an act of referring someone or something for consultation, review, or further action or the directing of a patient to a medical specialist by a GP a person whose case has been referred to a specialist doctor or a professional body another meaning agency. Referral in other words means handing over to another professional (it is generally a specialist) or type of service such as GP, physiotherapy, NHS, dentist local authority, housing provider and etc. Occasionally, counsellors provide guidance and the other organisation would support them fully, usually for a specific problem but also where feelings and attitudes are important. Counsellor works with people who come with some kind of problems. One of those problems might be abortion and HIV support as well as many other areas. Such areas might include mental health, family therapy, marriage guidance, sexual difficulties, substance abuse, terminal illness, disability and bereavement. Counselling is often used to ease the symptoms and develop a more positive approach.
