Grieving / bereavement?

My daughters boyfriend was tragically killed in a car crash 5 weeks ago, this young man didn't have a daily input in my life but am really suffering from this loss, I keep thinking he's not my boyfriend, brother or son so why am I feeling this massive void in my life. I have had a few problems in the last 3 months, a low level cancer lump removed from my back in November, having a hearing aid fitted in January, losing large quantities of hair to alopechia and losing my sister suddenly to bronchial pneumonia just after christmas and my brother in law to heart failure the same week. I took one day off after hearing about my sisters death and subsequently took 2 days off for the funerals, my sister in Bournemouth and the following day in Harwich. I had to use my Annual Holiday for funerals on the 27th and 28th January. I believe that I have been very careful not to take my problems to work and have tried to maintain reasonably normal whilst there. However on Thursday last week I was called into a meeting by my MD and Sales Director and told that I was spreading negativity, acting uninterested, looking through people, not listening and generally causing the business to suffer. I firmly believe that I was being treated unfairly and said so. They said many other things and also that they did understand that I had been through a lot recently but I had to pull myself together. I was extremely upset by their aggression and said they had no concept of what I had been through. I was told not to pull that one on them and to go home until I was fit to work. I left the building absolutely distressed and ended up going to my doctor in that state. He has given me a sick certificate for a week which I will send in. My point is that, I do not think I have been doing a bad job and I also do not think their summary of my behaviour was correct. I was so upset by their treatment that I did look like I was not coping when I went to the doctor but it was because of their treatment not my issues ( I have an excellent network of family and friends and am working through any issues I might have had really well) Now, I am so upset, I really don't want to go back at all. I have been there for 9 years and considered these people to be friends. I don't know what my rights are. I honestly can't think of anything worse than trying to work with 2 people who turned on me so nastily. My question really is, what on earth do I do now? If I send in the sick note, it looks like they are right, because I am now signed off for Emotional Distress Bereavement Reaction, but it was really Emotional Distress caused by the meeting... help

How do i get over losing my friends?

Until I was about 25 I had a large group of friends, we all hung out together all the time as we all had similar interests. I then took a very stressful job and got involved in a relationship and both these things caused me to drift from the group. By the time I realised and tried to reconnect with them all they had 'moved on' and didn't seem to need or want me as part of the group anymore. I have just gotten on with things in the last couple of years and have a couple of other 'friends' although they are more just people I know rather than do anything socially with . Anyway I'm 29 now and after years of feeling lonely its now got unbearable. I have had years without things I used to enjoy like the pub at the weekend as I dont have anyone to go with and now its dawned on me I'm unlikely to have that again. I'm so low and upset and struggling for 2 months now I would say its the major thought in my head for about 85% of every day - I'm obsessed with wanting to turn the clock back. I think if all the group had drifted now that we are older I could cope but they all still hang together. Because of safety in numbers I guess none of them really notice my absense but even after 4 years I am still struggling to cope with being left out in the cold alone. I'm heartbroken every time I hear from mutual acquaintances of summer barbeques and hen nights and realise that I never get invited to anything like that and I could never throw a party like that either cos I have no one to invite. It's too late now to have a second stab at trying to patch things up with them - they would probably think I was a crazy stalker or a sad case if I admit to them I have not gotten over this or managed to make any other close friends after 4 years. The worst part is that I am actually a generally really social person - I cope fairly well in social situations and I am capable of making people laugh so please dont think I'm this self absorbed misery and thats why people dont want to know me. Also I dont need depression meds as its this one issue I have to deal with. I know all the advice about trying to meet new people - I have tried it and have got invited to a candle party as a result which was kind but not my scene -it was just my first invite to anything for so long that I was grateful for it so its nothing like getting to be part of a wee 'gang' with lots in common like I used to. What I'm looking for is some soundbites to help me try to lift the weight off my heart about the loss of my friends. Sometimes it feels like a bereavement. But its so hard to cope visualising them all out at the pub on a Saturday night or something laughing and having fun while I go round and watch telly with my parents. My life is falling apart?

I've gone through several bereavements and treatment for long-standing severe depression. Now, the shock has gone and I've stopped treatment and medication and my life seems to be in utter freefall. My finals are coming up so soon and I can't focus. My family relationships are falling apart, I'm in too much debt, can't find a job. I honestly don't know whether I can go through with it all. it's season 2017, iv'e gone 15 games lost 12, drawn the other 3, i keep on getting thrashed, my top players have gone, rooney, hernandez, valencia, cerci, konoplyanka, nani. the only attacking midfield i have are, stanislas, montero, gibson, cohen, rodwell, perisic and modric, the only striker i have is macheda, i was top till december, all my top player i had to let go, coz they were out of contract and i couldn't afford their wage demands, i don't know how to turn things round this season, how do you play the game, are you supposed to just ride out a bad season and start again the next.

I'm right there with you, and I know it is extremely hard. Don't give up, because things do eventually get better and pay off. I had major depression for a while and I still am slightly depressed, but I know now that I cannot give up on this world or myself/life. Hang in there and keep on going!!!!

About a month ago my younger brother [15] lost a friend in a car accident. he has been really down and doesn't talk about it to any one apart from me. i told my parents and they said that he will get over it and as much as i wish i could just let him deal with it i find myself getting more and more involved with it. ever since it happened he has being getting in to lots of fights at school and as we go to the same school its getting frustrating to be dragged out of lesson and hear that hes being in a fight again .also hes being really emotional if anything is remotely mentioned about the accident. In four weeks you rang in sick twice. There is nothing wrong with grieving for a lost family member that you were close to, unless it begins to affect your daily life and your health. If you felt like the counseling with the Youth worker....then by all means try and find a bereavement counselor and talk to them. When I lost my dad due to suicide in Dec. 2000, I took a picture of him in the open coffin and put it in a "Dad" frame and there are times when I "talk" to it; asking his advice or telling him about something that has come up in my life that I think he might have been interested in. Sometimes I get angry with him and I yell at him and sometimes I ahve even thrown the picture across the room. It makes me feel like I can handle the "coward" way that he left us. I have forgiven him over the years, and I don't talk to the picture much anymore, but it sure helped back then.

Then I was put back on LOA for 3 more days and then I got a paid vacation. I had to extend my LOA for 2 more days after my vacation because I had gotten extremely sick *a Sunday and a Monday*. When I got back *Wednesday because I had an off day that Tuesday*, I hadn't been returned to the time system and was told it would be up to 48 hours for me to be returned and in the mean time I'd have to fill out forms of all my break and lunch punches. After 48 hours, I still had not been returned to the system. I continued to fill out forms for the next week and a half because both the head supervisor and my supervisor were gone on vacations with the holidays. I was supposed to have gotten paid last Friday *the day before New Year's Eve* and no one had my check. I talked to the head supervisor Monday and he said he'd work to get me returned to the system and that he would get me a check. I was off on Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday I asked if he had my check and he said no, but he would go get it the next day *today*. When I got to work today, he was not there and had not left a check and no one would call him to ask what happened. My supervisor said he was going to call the head of our HR department and hadn't heard back from her all day. I currently have 65 cents in the bank because I've gone 3 weeks without pay and have had to several bills. My former supervisor had forbidden me from going to the bathroom *she has since been moved to another department* and I feel like I am receiving unfair treatment since i'm one of about 5 employees out of 300 who have been there over a year and all I ask is a check for what I'm owed and never ask for anything else at that place. Ok, this might be hard to understand. I'm angry at other people on a forum I use. We have all lost a close family member, but most are 20-30 yrs older than me. However, they all make a far bigger deal about it. I'm not saying it's not a big deal, believe me, it turned my life upside down, but I have lost more since then, and even though I'm a lot younger than they are, I'm not completely self-obsessed. Why am I itchy every day?

Hi, I'm 11 weeks pregnant with my second baby and for the past 3 or 4 days my legs have been really itchy. Its the whole of my legs and I've been putting E45 itch relief cream on but its not working. He didn't play terribly against Barcelona and he's a very good team player. At times he even acts like a box to box midfielder. Possible ectopic pregnancy?

I am at 3 to 4 weeks pregnant, no more than that, and had to go to an emergency room Monday night because I had severe pain in my abdomen after having sex with my husband. Found out I'm pregnant but they said it could be ectopic because of the pain. The pain is now gone (it was gone the next day but I've felt sore/tender in that area for a few days) everything feels almost normal now. They even gave me an infant bereavement card which really scared me!! Has anyone gone through this and what can I expect? They still don't know what caused the pain... I have had to get blood drawn every other day..

I'm refering directly to the law concerning Bereavement Leave in the work place and where the law stands concering this. From what I can find the law makes no reference to STEPS in the policy, which basically means to the hard case employer (my employer) that if someone in your "IMMEDIATE FAMILY" dies and they are not Blood Related then stiff bickies. Doesn't matter that they "to you" are your mum/dad, grandparent, brother/sister and have been there the majority or in some cases your entire life, if they are not blood to you or your partner then you are NOT entitled to bereavement leave. I can not beleave that the Australian Federal Government ment this to be the case as it is TOTALLY IMMORAL and paramount to DISCRIMINATION. I'm trying to get some difinitive clarification on this as I was not granted bereavement leave for my my grandads (step) funeral and dread the day that dad (step) dies as I don't want to be told again I'm not entitled. I never knew my real dad or his dad and these two "steps" were all I had in that respect. I feel discriminated against and if the law supports this it should be changed. I had gone to the library in tears when my wife had passed on and found myriad of poetry suited for such an occasion however I did not use any that I had found, on account of they were not from my heart they were not my words my emotions, so I sat down to write and spoke my heart at the funeral.

I feel so alone and lost without him, like I now have no one left in the world who truly cares about me. As well as this, my boyfriend dumped me yesterday because he doesn't want to have to deal with my grief and the pain of my bereavement. I feel so absolutely abandoned. I don't feel I have anyone to turn to, because my dad was always the one I went to when I was scared or upset or confused. I'm only 18. I don't want to have to face the rest of my life without him. I want someone to come and take care of me and be there for me like my sister's boyfriend is there for her. I don't have anyone, and it's worst at night with no one to talk to, no one to call or text. I miss him so much. I don't know what to do. Everything makes me want to cry. It sounds like this was a very difficult time for you and if your 'friends' couldn't understand that or be there for you at such an important time then I don't think they're really worth it. My daughter, 20 year old is currently on the sick from work due to a bereavement, the boss now wants a meeting with her to discuss her future although she has produced a sick note for another 2 weeks, does she have to go to the meeting? hi my sister in law also had a stillborn son 2 years ago she now has a healthy little girl of 6 months. through out her pregnancy with her she had more scans and check ups than you would normally and went to the hospital if anything didnt feel right.she was really anxious from 19 wks til 23wks as she lost her baby at 21 wks but her midwife was brilliant went round to see her and if she couldnt calm her she was send to the hospital for a check up and scan to put her mind at rest. hope this helps and so sorry for your loss

How can I help educate young people on heroin abuse through my personal experiences?

I am a 42 year old man who has battled drug abuse for years but heroin only came into my life full time around three and a half years ago .Once I new I was on my hundredth last chance and did want help ,it was hard to get unless you had a stack of cash to burn and after burning quite a big stack of cash already on trying several different ways of coming of heroin I knew there was only one chance I had left . The last chance Im talking about was going on a methadone programme,something that I always said I would never do but after trying everything else and leaving myself penny less it was my only lifeline left for me to try so I put my name on a waiting list and was told it could be as long as one and a half years .It took 10 months for me to get on the programme but in that 10 months I had put my family through even more hell ,gave myself a police record which I did not have before hand .I feel ashamed of what iv put my wife, children, mother ,father ,brother ,the list is never ending but now I do see some light at the end of the tunnel ,after nearly a year on methadone which I can only stress doesn't work for everyone ,I have not only went on to a methadone programme but have grasped every opportunity of any kind of help because I basically new I wasn't a bad person I just had some nerve ,anxiety and depression issues that I had battled and self medicated with valium and other benzodiazepeens for around 15 years then had a bereavement in the family and went on smack full time .Now I feel Iv so much knowledge ,help ,understanding of the whole drug culture ,may it be smoking pot to taking heroin I feel If I could give even one youngster a little hope or help to get clean I would love to .Im no trained drug councillor or even that well educated but what I can offer is understanding of being a drug addict and sometimes that's worth allot more than all the degrees in the world and sometimes young kids can look up to someone who has actually been through what they are going through ,so if anyone has any knowledge of any way I could help either online by telephone or any other charitable work to do with kids on drugs or helping to educate kids to say no to any form of drugs I would be very happy .Many people will probably judge this question from me and say he needs to keep himself stable for a good few years first before he goes trying to help others ,well yes they can have their opinion but I feel I need to do something for myself and others because it can only help me more and give me some self respect back into my life doing something like this which ultimately can only strengthen my rehabilitation.So anyone who knows of something I could be doing to help the forgoten people, that like myself was on waiting lists and felt worthless please reply with suggestions.Thanks for reading ,and by the way I have not found god on my path to where I am today ,so don't think I have a hidden agenda on trying to convert anyone .

Yes, you can tell, especially if you sing well, then you'll hear it. It when you sing the wrong notes, thinking that it's right. Like if someone is forcing a high not out of themselves and it cones out all wrong. Or if someone can't sing a low note. Sometimes people are out of tune because they are tone deaf. They hear one sound but they can't make the same sound with their voice. Hope this helps!

I have had a terrible year and, as a result, look old, tired and sad. How can I look rejuvenated quickly?

After a number of heartbreaks and bereavements, I had the year from hell. I experienced a deep depression which completely changed my life. I am now recovering, but when I look in the mirror I barely recognise myself. I look gaunt, sad, tired and dejected. I know that in the long run exercise, diet and good mental health will help me look my age again (mid twenties) but is there anything I can do in the time being to speed the process along. I really want to look lovely by this time next week... I already have a haircut booked!

Hi, I really like this boy...hes just like me in a way! And were best friends but we dont hang out and stuff :S but anyway he broke up with his girlfriend because she didnt find any interest in him and so he got upset and ran to me. Scared that I will lose her again.?

I bonded with a colleague as her little boy loved me so much. I used to look after him and then a few months ago she suddenly stopped bringing him. I was very upset and worried that I had done something wrong and we didn't speak or see each other for 3 weeks. I asked to chat to her as I was worried and she agreed this and we arranged a time to meet. She didn't make that time so I contacted her and found out she was going through a bereavement. I felt very guilty that I didn't know and I know that I have stepped up to the mark as a friend. Now we seem closer then ever, she comes to find me in work to chat when she didn't before, texts me more and seems to want to be close to me. However I remember how awful I felt when she and her little boy suddenly disappeared and I am scared it will happen again. I am also scared that there was a problem which made her take her son out (even though she has brought him back several times since and still encourages us to bond). I am confused by it all. How do I get past the fear of this? At the moment I feel like I am walking on eggshells. Things are better then ever at the moment but I worry that may all end again and I will feel the way that I did back then.

However, the problem is the amount of pressure the media puts on you before you actually do anything. I remember the hype before the 2006 world cup where all England was saying, we can win the world cup because we have Rooney, the guy was only 21 years old and all England thought he could carry the entire team, England was eliminated and everyone went against Rooney. I think that is the biggest problem with England, they get one outstanding player and they apply all the pressure on him that he can carry the entire team to glory. Happened with Beckham, Michael Owen, then Rooney. There will be more in the future.

Should I keep in contact with my brother?

I lost my father about 6 weeks ago and was with him in the hospital tending to him the last few days when he was dieing of lung cancer, this was very emotional and shocking for me and I was very close to my dad having worked with him through the years too. I only have mum now as my close family, this has hit me very hard and i'm off work for a month for bereavement. My brother left the family when he was 16 to get married in about 1975, in all the time that has passed since then my brother has changed his surname to his wife's because she wanted him to and they have kept the three grandchildren from my mum and dad, (i haven't seen them either, but i feel the pain for my mum and dad) over the years my mum and dad have tried hard to make things right and have bent over backwards to bring them back into the fold on numerous occasions but my brothers wife is a very influential woman and has lied to my brother about trivial things to do with mum, dad and me, she has twisted conversations around so my brother has ended up saying there's no point in us all being "friends" to my mum and dad and not even listening to them, she has really tried hard herself in keeping him away from us and has succeeded, my mum and dad have never been nasty to her or about her. What with one thing and another it has ended up with my dad now gone and never having had his grandchildren in his life which i feel is so very sad. I wrote to my brother of my dads passing as mum and me felt it was only right , he came to the funeral and he said he wanted to come in person to say "I'm sorry too" to my dad, I really felt i'd liked to have said it's a bit late when he can't even hear you. my mum has now told me that over the years dad had really got used to the situation of never having grandchildren and doesn't want me to not have contact with my brother in case anything happens, I asked her what she meant as I thought she meant her, but she said what if something happens to him. Now my brother wants to keep in touch as if nothing has ever happened and has invited me to his home for a short stay if I want to get away from things for a break, I certainly don't want to do this but I feel that I would be betraying my dad by even chatting to him, and obviously none of us can go back now and change things, I don't really want to be in contact as hes denied my parents their grandchildren and i feel very strongly about this. I feel bad as a person as it doesn't seem "right" for me to be hard and not want to be in contact as he's supposed to be my brother, also i feel it may jeopardise him keeping in touch with my mum, who at 83 has only just started to come to terms with his not wanting them as parents and grandparents, this has gone on for 30 odd years with my mum torturing herself everyday for the way things have turned out, I have watched her live with hearing others talking of their grandchildren and knowing how hurt she is inside, my mum has sent cards over the years and phoned but my brother never really bothered with her or them as he just didn't want contact but mum never gave up. My mum and dad never did anything wrong it all just started with silly misunderstandings and lies from his then girlfriend and it just escalated, over the years my brother has soon known where to come when he needed money and has sent his wife on missions to us to get money from my mum and dad, which they have gladly given them to help them out with the children etc even when mum and dad didn't have much money themselves, but this has never ended with them being any more friendly, they have just kept away again. I just feel now my dad has gone it's a case of too little too late, and i feel my brother could be wanting to keep in touch in case my mum goes and he'll get money out of her estate. I don't feel he is keeping in touch to be nice to her as hes recently said two quite hurt full and unnecessary things to her on the phone about past things that his wife lied about, I feel this really isn't the time as she's just lost her husband and he can't even hold his tongue. i have had an e mail from my brother for 3 weeks now and i haven't answered it as i rather do nothing and silly enough i don't want to hurt his feelings when all the time i feel so strongly that he has denied my mum and dad their grand children over the years and made them very unhappy. i know this is very long but im so mixed up in my head as im still really grieving for my dad so I'd be very grate full for any-ones point of view on this to help me see more clearly.
