Is this normal as it seems strange?

I have a co worker I am close to in a way. I see her as an auntie type figure and have supported her through a bereavement and looked after her children.She also says that she and her kids love me. However, we don't actually chat much in work or have much to do with one another there. We also seem to be stuck with what to say to one another at times. Does this sound odd?
