I'm auditioning for high school jazz band on tenor sax on friday and I've been really nervous :/ I've always been a really good saxophone player, but jazz has never been my strong point. I just don't get it. For our audition, we have to play an excerpt, play Billie's Bounce by Charlie Parker (2 choruses, then improv), then sightread. My question is, what do the judges look for in a jazz audition for saxophone, and what will set me apart from the others and help me get lead tenor in the top band? thanks :)
