Is it okay to exchange a Get Well Soon card for a Bereavement card in my local card shop?

I bought a Get Well Soon card for my friend the other day but now he's gone and died before I had the chance to write it so I was wondering if it would be okay to bring the card back to the card shop and exchange it for a Bereavement/Sympathy card instead? I don't want to see my money going to waste.
